Anope 1.9.2-p2 Released
We're pleased to announce the availability of 1.9.2-p2 which is a second patch release of the recent 1.9.2.
This release includes full support for InspIRCd 2.0's m_customprefix module and some other InspIRCd specific improvements.
This release also includes several general fixes which users of 1.9 generally should consider upgrading for.
Finally, users of 1.9.2 and 1.9.2-p1 should install this new version as there is a known issue with a certain nick drop event leading to a crash.

Anope 1.9.2-p1 Released
We're pleased to announce the availability of 1.9.2-p1 which is a patch release of the recent 1.9.2.
This release tackles some windows specific issues and further develops the db-converter so if you've had problems converting from 1.8.x databases to 1.9.2 please try again or let us know.

Contributors & Testers Wanted
As the Summer draws in we all find ourselves with less time due to the attraction of some sunshine and beer.
With this in mind we are calling out for people who use Anope to give back to their community and help us move forward.
We need:
* Testers for both branches, particularly on Windows. (Even if you don't run your network on Windows but do run Windows on your PC using your databases in a testnet would be very helpful)
* Code contributors on the development branch who fancy getting stuck in. (Check out the gitweb link for the todo)
* Some folks who like PHP/Graphics Design to help develop phpAnope
* Some nice folks to sit in #anope and on the forums helping those who are struggling to get Anope going. We were all newbies once.
In return you will get a feeling of satisfaction in helping further your project and your community and the opportunity to get stuck in with the newest features and contribute to the direction of the project.

Anope moves to Git
Since the recent release of Anope 1.9.2 we have taken the decision to migrate our development away from Subversion to Git.
The benefits of this change will outweigh the initial inconvenience of adapting to the new system.
With immediate notice a back up has been taken of the sourceforge subversion repository and will be taken offline.

To clone the anope repository you may do the following:
$ git clone git://anope.git.sf.net/gitroot/anope/anope/
The default branch is 1.8 and you can switch to 1.9 by using git checkout -b 1.9 origin/1.9
Further advice is available in the git man page or you may seek support on our web forum.

Anope 1.9.2 Released
The Anope Team are pleased to announce the release of Anope 1.9.2.
This release brings a number of improvements since 1.9.1-p1, major highlights such as:
Removed binary databases in favour of flat file plaintext ones.
Modestacker to combine mode changes together.
Chanserv persist to keep services bots in channels when channel is empty.
IPv6 Link Support.
Ability for anope to reconnect if the connection to the uplink dies.
Support for multiple simultaneous encryption methods.
InspIRCd 2.0 support
Live updating SQL and ability to execute commands through SQL which are reflected by Anope in its own databases. (This does not mean you can randomly edit the Anope SQL Tables, you use the commands table to send 'normal' anope commands which anope interprets and updates both sets of databases with)
This will be further developed/re-engineered in 1.9.3 but it's a good start.
*IMPORTANT NOTE* - MySQL Support does not function properly within Windows in this release, it will be provided in 1.9.3.
As always, we encourage early adopters of development releases to exercise caution and take frequent system back ups knowing full well it might destroy your plans on a Friday night. We have been running 1.9.2 on Teranova for some time now and only uncovered a few unseen bugs. (This was on both Unreal and subsequently our migration to InspIRCd 1.2).
In order to convert your databases to the new 1.9.2+ format you must run the db-converter executable which will generate anope.db
To compile MySQL support in this version you will require mysql++ and to copy the modules from modules/sql to modules in the anope source.
We are developing a php web solution which will feature shortly allowing users to modify their own details from your website. We welcome suggestions on our forum for functionality this could include.

New Team Members
Just a very short announcement to welcome Phil & Lethality to the Team.
Phil comes from a long established Anope network and has always been chirpy in his support of the project so we're thrilled he wants to commit some time and energy into helping take Anope further.
Lethality comes from one of our sponsors and has been a frequently abused supporter for some time with us. (He's also the windows man for those people too lazy to compile their own modules!)
What they don't realise is what they've let themselves in for:)

Anope 1.8.4 - Release
UPDATED - 5th April 2010
We're pleased to announce the latest release of the Anope stable branch; 1.8.4.
This release brings a list of fixes generally, and some further compatibility with InspIRCd 1.2.
As always we recommend you test the new version out in a testnet environment with your database and third party modules before considering upgrading.
We are in the process of also adding the functionality to our modules site (http://modules.anope.org/) to 'mass' build modules for Windows each time there is a new release from us which should hopefully help Windows' users make decisions upon upgrading irrespective of whether the module author has produced a new dll for them.

In a fairly unusual move for us I'd like to dedicate this release to Adam as not only is he a development machine but he's a genuinely nice guy and we're very grateful for the time and effort he puts into the project. If anyone in the real world is looking for a young developer with an incredibly bright future get in touch; he's definitely worth your time.
On the roadmap for the near future we're in the middle of rewriting the socket system for 1.9.2, and having just introduced a SQL Interface which whilst not being "live SQL" as most will think this provides a sensible and easy to use commands table which Anope will process at intervals so you can in theory do anything via SQL that you could do from an IRC client and yes, this will open the doors to web system integration etc and we've provided a small php page to demonstrate this. (Usual warnings that trunk will probably eat your breakfast and make fun of your wife. Hint, do not use it in a production environment.)
It's busy times here and what with our friends over at InspIRCd working on 2.0 and 2.1 of their software we are predicting quite a productive year for IRC as a whole and that's something I'm sure we're all excited about and glad to hear. Onwards and upwards.

Anope 1.8.3 Release
6 months since the last stable branch update, we are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Anope 1.8.3.
This release brings to the table several bug fixes and official support for InspIRCd 1.2.
We have also taken the decision to move to Visual Studio 2008 for our precompiled Windows versions. This means that if you do not already have 2008 Runtimes you will need those but as several module authors have already moved to this version you may already have them.
You can download them from here.
As with all of our releases we would recommend you take a known good back up and perform testing in a testnet environment with your current databases and modules before considering upgrading your live network. We would however recommend anyone using any versions of 1.6, 1.7 or 1.8 to update as soon as possible.
We would like to extend our thanks to the networks which helped us test this new version and would welcome anyone else to get in touch to help us form a 'Release Testing Team' in order to provide a more structured and efficient testing and release pattern.
